Cats Protection – A Sure Petcare Charity Partner

Founded in 1927, Cats Protection is the UK’s leading feline welfare charity. They help around 200,000 cats and kittens every year thanks to their network of over 250 volunteer-run branches and 34 centres.

Their three main aims are: to find homes for cats in need, encourage neutering and provide information about how to care for cats correctly.

Children are the cat owners of the future, so their focus on educating kids is an important step towards a society which understands cats’ needs. To help educate young people, Cats Protection offers free talks to groups of children aged 3-18 years old. Talks for adults can also be arranged.

Educating people on how to care for cats properly can lead to a reduction in the number of unwanted cats looking for new homes. Neutering, and thus preventing the birth of unwanted kittens, is a great place to start. Our recommended neutering age for your pet cat is four months. All cats rehomed through Cats Protection are neutered before they are adopted, or given a neutering voucher at the time of adoption to cover this cost.

If you’re looking for a cat to rehome, the Find-a-cat service on their website makes it easy to find cats in your area. The Cats Protection website is also a great resource for advice on cat care and cat behaviour. They even have an e-learning course called Understanding Feline Origins (UFO) to teach cat owners about the ancestry of cats, which helps them understand their pets better.

Cats Protection relies solely on donations from the public. There are many ways to donate, including making a regular monthly donation, sponsoring a cat pen, taking part in their weekly lottery, donating through your pay, taking part in an event, leaving a gift in your will, or subscribing to The Cat magazine.

Donations really do make a difference and help us look after the many cats in their care:

  • a donation of £5 could feed a cat in their care for just under a month
  • £10  could cover the cost of microchipping three cats in their care
  • £15 could cover the cost of care for one of their cats for over a week

Sure Petcare has supported Cats Protection for a number of years. If you purchase a Sure Petcare product through our affiliate scheme, we’ll make a 15% donation to Cats Protection for every product sold and you’ll also receive a 20% discount on your purchase. More information about the Cats Protection affiliate scheme can be found here.
