The Bailey family

Blind kitten uses SureFeed Microchip Pet Feeder with ease

Darren Bailey lives in Nederland, Texas, with his five cats and one dog. All his pets are using a SureFeed Microchip Pet Feeder including Ceci the kitten, who has no trouble using it, even though she is completely blind.

Ceci the blind catCeci was dumped in a parking lot at a veterinarian’s office in Southeast Texas. She had a bad respiratory infection that didn't get treated in time, which ruptured her eyes. The vet had to remove her eyes, and her tear ducts, to save her life.  Ceci had a rough start in life, and now at five months old, she is doing pretty well.

Darren discovered that Ceci uses echolocation to find her way around, similar to the way bats do. And she’s very good at it!

Ceci has no problems finding food; when she smells it, she goes for it. And this became a problem with the other pets in Darren’s home, because she loved stealing their food! The SureFeed Microchip Pet Feeders have solved this problem. Her lack of sight was not a problem when it came to using her own feeder, as she accepted it immediately!

It didn’t take Darren’s other pets long to use their feeders either. He didn’t need to use the training mode for any of them and within three days they were all using them happily. Two of his overweight pets are already starting to show signs of losing weight.

Darren says: “The feeders work very well, and they will allow you to control or monitor how much your pets are eating. I can now tell which of my pets are eating and which ones aren't eating as much each day. I wish that I would have found the feeders sooner!”

Here’s some more information about Darren’s other pets. There’s a story behind every one!

Little Man, 2 years old: Little Man had birth defects. He was born with a misshaped rib cage, his lungs were partially prolapsed behind his ribs, and the Humane Society's staff vet believed that he did not have a diaphragm. These initially made it a little difficult for him to breathe, but he has improved a lot over time. Darren initially fostered Little Man, and decided to adopt him in January 2016.

Tamale, 9.5 years old: Tamale was found abandoned at Marguerite's Tamale Stand, near Darren’s home, around June 2006, which is how he got his name. Darren was stationed at Naval Base Guantanamo Bay, Cuba at the time. When he returned to Texas in December 2006, he adopted Tamale from the Humane Society in Beaumont, Texas.

Sweetie, 1 year, 8 months old: Darren began taking care of Sweetie in June 2014 when his 95 year old grandmother went into the hospital. When his grandmother got better and went home, she wasn't able to take care of Sweetie, so Darren adopted her.

Franklin, 3 years old: When Franklin was found, he still had a piece of his umbilical cord attached. When Darren got Franklin as a foster on August 11, 2013, he was only about 2-3 days old. He was Darren’s first foster kitten that needed to be bottle fed. He is now healthy, happy, and very smart! Franklin can play fetch!

Beau, 9.5 years old: While Darren was stationed at Naval Base Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, his Aunt lost the second one of her two dogs to an illness. Also at the time, his Aunt had terminal cancer. Darren gave Beau to his Aunt and she loved him right away. About a month or so before his Aunt passed away in March 2008, she asked Darren to take Beau back and keep him after she was gone. Beau will turn 10 in October 2016.
