How owners can prepare for holidays away from their pets

When you go away on holiday, it can be difficult leaving your pet behind at home, especially if you consider your pet to be a member of the family. Take a look at these top tips to help you feel more confident about leaving your pet at home while you go away.

Pet health check

Give your pet a good check over to ensure they appear healthy before you go away; you could even take them to the vet for a check-up. Knowing your pet is healthy before you go on holiday can reassure you that they will be OK while you are away.

Finding a pet sitter

Consider getting a pet sitter to look in on your pet whilst you are away instead of leaving them in a cattery or a kennel. This will mean that your pet can stay in the comfort of your own home, so not too much will change for them whilst you are away.

Consider asking a family member or friend to act as your pet sitter; someone who knows your pet already. If that’s not possible, do your research to find a reputable pet sitter and get them to meet you and your pet prior to hiring them so that you can determine if they are a good fit. Don’t be afraid to quiz the pet sitter about their previous experience – you want to be sure to find someone who cares about animals and who knows what they’re doing.

Information for your pet sitter

Let your pet sitter know what to feed your pet and when and tell them if your pet has any medical conditions and whether they will need to give your pet medication while you’re away. Make sure the pet sitter knows where to find your pet’s food, toys, bed, dog lead etc. so that they have them to hand when needed. Leave your pet’s vet details with your pet sitter so that they know where to take your pet if they need medical care.

The more information you give them, the more at ease you will feel when you set off for your holiday. No details are trivial if you think they will help the pet sitter care for your pet better.

Staying connected with your pet

When you’re on holiday, wouldn’t it be great if you could see what your pet is getting up to back at home? Well now you can, with a connected pet product from Sure Petcare. Sure Petcare connected pet products let you keep track of your pet’s comings and goings, behaviour and feeding wherever you are.
